THE ROMA QUESTION IN EUROPE

The roma question in Europe

After some years of the changes the roma communities in Eastern Europe became the segregated and discriminated part of the societies. The causes of these negative forms are the deep economical and sociological transforms which touched not only the roma societies but the society as a whole as well.
The economy of the Eastern European states have changed definitely and the quality of the industry and the structure of the economy formed according to the market economy but at the same time the sums of the GDP dramatically reduced.
The market economy has sharpened the competition on the labour market and the demand for the qualified workers has grown. That was the first reason about that the roma couldn’t entered on the new labour market. The qualification of the roma workers remained far behind the expectation of the newly appeared labour market, influenced by the competition based on the market economy. On the other hand the qualified work needs fewer workers, so the number of jobless people countinoulosly has grown. On that way almost the entire roma community became jobless. Nowadays the situation among roma has not changed into positive direction.
At the very beginning of the changes the Eastern European states made several mistakes, one of them was they forget to educate the roma. Instead of education they condemned the roma communities for state and parish relief.
The jobless situation and the undereducated roma society has no chance or other way than go into the serious crime situation. Among the young roma especially high the number of crimes.
The Eastern European societies can’t afford the social net for these people who stay permanently outside of the labour market. The under education, the jobless situation and the crime have been connected to each other, they strengthening the bias against the roma. The battle against the racism requires continuously attention
These above mentioned facts highlighted the deep crises of roma communities. The present situation in the Eastern European countries shows that the roma people need the help of the European communities, because the problem has been growing day by day. The rate of birth three, four times higher among the roma, than in the other part of the society and the number of the jobless people very quickly grows. The interest to step forward to the roma societies is common.
The task ahead is not an easy and short time work. The roma society must overcome some costumes and bad habit which accompanies them throughout the centuries..
The question of roma emerged first of all in the Eastern European countries, but it is resolvable task for the European community.
